I'm making myself read Daphne Merkin's piece on psychoanalysis in the Time from a few weeks ago, and came across an apposite quote:
 'Psychoanalysis is about what two people can say to each other if they agree not to have sex.'  Adam Phillips

I wonder what more Diana Athill got out of people by having sex with them!
